Site Demographics:
This was a brick
building constructed in the early 1980's. It consists of 3 townhouses,
each with a basement and a second. The basement mainly holds the unit's
utilities and the laundry area. There is also storage and an area for play.
The main floor houses a half bath, the kitchen, and the living room. The
second floor houses 2 bedrooms and a full bath.
Investigation Report
Claims of Activity
This case was referred to us by our friends
at the Buckeye State Paranormal & Haunting Investigators (www.bsphi.com).
The client was very concerned that she had a demonic type of haunt by the
activity she was having. Claims of activity ranged from night terrors
of her children, moving objects, full body apparitions, objects disappearing
and reappearing in different locations, and voices.
Equipment Location
4 static IR cameras were placed in the home.
One was located in the living room, one located in the bedroom where the
family slept, one shooting down the basement stairs, and one in the
other bedroom. These all are linked back to a DVR
security system.
Wireless audio was failed to work and was placed
out-of-service.
Digital voice recorders were placed in the bedroom with
the family and in the other bedroom.
Each investigation crew carried a Sony Nightshot
Handicam, digital voice recorder, EMF/K-2 Meter, and digital
thermocouple thermometer.
Investigation
Due to the client's extreme fear of the
activity the family had been experiencing, the investigators went to the
location the previous day to interview the client. After the
interview, the investigators went through the home and performed a
preliminary investigation. During this time, an EVP of a female was captured
on the voice recorder.
During the night of the investigation, a few
personal experiences occurred. The first was two Kyle while Jeremy,
Ryan, and the client were upstairs performing an EVP session. During
this time, the kitchen table that housed our command central began to shake
vigorously. Kyle immediately radioed for Ryan & Jeremy. When
they got to him, he was very shaken and explained what happened.
Unfortunately, no evidence of this was captured. This just goes to
show that not even the command area is safe from the paranormal.
While investigating the upstairs bedroom,
Jeremy and client kept seeing a dark shadow pass by the doorway.
Unfortunately, we were unable to capture this on video, because the IR
illuminators of the camera drowned our anything that was dark.
During this same time upstairs in that room,
all three heard the sound of a woman's voice. This was captured on the
voice recorder.
As the three were leaving the room right
after Jeremy and the client stated they were seeing the shadow figure pass
by the door, Ryan got an instant smell of cigarette smoke in the hallway.
This lasted only for a few seconds and then was gone. This was
significant, because no one in the house smoked and the home did not have
the smell at any other time. This was also significant, because the
client stated that she had found an ash tray in the home while cleaning one
day and through it out in the trash. She returned in the home to find
the same ash tray sitting on the kitchen table. This event was the
reason why the client contacted help.
While leaving command central after a break,
Jeremy began to get EMF spikes on the K-2 meter. While he was
attempting to make contact, the client began to have a paniced look on her
face. Ryan asked her what was wrong, but she could not respond
verbally. This lasted for approx. 10 seconds before she finally took a
large breath and stated that she had an overwhelming feeling of fear and was
unable to talk or breathe.
While Ryan and Kyle were upstairs in the
bedroom with the client, a shadow was captured on the video camera. We
are not declaring this paranormal, but we do think it is interesting.
That is because the shadow looks as if Kyle, who was holding the camera,
scratched his head with his right hand. However, the camera is in his
right hand, so he couldn't have done this. There is a wall behind him,
so no other shadow could have made this. He attempts to recreate it,
because he saw it himself, but he was unable to.
After reviewing the evidence, there were many
EVP's. Although we were unable to obtain any good video
evidence, we captured more EVPs in this investigaiton than in any other
investigation we have performed. The audio is below.
This is a woman's voice that was captured
on our Sony Handcam. It was heard by all three in the room
The client requested that she be able to
speak to the spirits in the home about her oldest daughter who she feels
may be sensitive. During this, she asks if they are mad that she
know things are going to happen and there is a small female voice that
makes a sound like to say "yes."
Jeremy is explaining to the client why he
got into this field. He is telling her that he asks himself why
paranormal activity happens and why aren't people in heaven like we are
taught. During this, you hear a man's voice come in and say "No."
While in the bedroom chatting about the
events of the night, there was a strange whine that you can hear over a
few seconds. This was not heard by anyone in the room.
While the client was asking the entities
to make themselves known by performing various things, she asked for
them to make a whistle sound that she though she had heard earlier in
the night. Right after she asked it, there was a faint whistle
sound.
Jeremy was explaining how he felt uneasy
in the bedroom at first during the investigation, but was feeling more
relaxed. At the very end of this clip, you hear a man's voice real
faint say "Don't Worry."
This investigation taught us a very important
lesson. "Don't judge a book by it's cover." After meeting with
the client, it was evident that the entire family was scared to death of
their home. After hearing all of the claims of activity, it seemed
that the mother was suffering from an overactive imagination and was causing
the children to feel the same. However, after reviewing the evidence, we
were confident in saying that there was a haunting occurring there and that
she was not making it up. The only question was whether it was
the location, an object, or a person. There were so many factors
discovered in our background investigation that we were unable to point to a
direct source. We were, however, confident in saying that it was not
the location that was haunted. The activity had never reached the
level that it was at before now and the neighbors stated that they had never
heard any strange noises throughout the night until the family moved into
the home. The oldest daughter stated that the activity started when
she received an old doll as a gift from a woman the family didn't even know.
The daughter spent some time at her grandparents in Florida and the activity
followed her. The doll was in her possession at that time.
However, the mother also reported that she has had paranormal experiences
since she was 16 years old. So it is unclear what is causing it.
A recommendation was given to pack up the doll and ship it away or dispose
of it all together in an attempt to stop the activity. Reports a few
weeks later revealed that they did this, but there was no luck in the
activity stopping. The client was very concerned about the home still,
so we contacted our friends at The Ohio Paranormal Society (www.theohioparanormalsociety.com).
This group is comprised of Christians who perform cleansings of homes to
ride them of spirit entities. TOPS was very eager to help us out with
this case and we thank them for it. We were also in close contact with
another group called Paraex (www.paraex.org).
Since the client had contacted them as well, their Associate Director Jessna
Woods and myself coordinated our efforts in an attempt to help the client.
However, since our investigation had determined that there was a haunting
and their organization is scientific based like ours, they opted to not
perform their investigation in an effort to not stir up anymore activity.
All of our evidence was shared with Paraex. Evidence revealed multiple
different voices on the EVPs. Since the 2 daughters are seeing the
apparitions of a woman in white, an old man, and a black slave woman, it is
unsure why these entities are trying to make contact with the family.
The 3 year old son also constantly sees the apparition of man that he calls
"Toby." This investigation was by far an interesting one and we hope
that they are able to finally live in peace or at least learn to coop with
their new roommates.
