Orbs

In this article, I'm going to talk about something that has been a big controversy in the paranormal field for sometime and that is orbs.  I love going to different paranormal groups websites and seeing the big graphics that say "NO ORBS."  The question that I must ask is "what do you mean by that?"  I think that because there have been so many pictures of dust and videos of bugs taken throughout the years that true orbs have been cast aside.  What is an orb?  Well, an orb is a ball or energy, usually captured on still photography or video.  A true orb must have three characteristics.  It must have it's own flight pattern, must emit it's own light, and must have a tail.  One tall tail sign of an orb is when it casts a shadow against an object.  Figure A to the left of the page shows what we feel is a true energy orb.  Now the big question that everyone always asks is "are orbs evidence of paranormal activity?"  My answer to that is simple; "Yes" and let me explain why.  The definition of paranormal is something that is not normal.  Balls of energy flying around us is not normal, I don't care who you are.  Does this mean that it is evidence of spirit activity.  Could be, I don't know.  I think we need to dive further into our research to try to determine what they are, how they are created, and where they come from. Like I said earlier in the article, dust photos have given orbs a bad rap for sometime. A ball in a picture that has no tail and does not give off any light is just dust.   Stop calling them orbs! Figure C shows what we look at as a dust orb.  I don't speak this just because I want to, but because I have witnessed this time and time again.  When we arrive at an investigation location, one thing I always look for once we go lights out and our static IR cameras are up and running is how much dust is in the air.  What's interesting about this is that when we review our photos of an investigation location, the photos in areas with a large amount of dust in the air always turn up a large amount of those phantom orbs, which is nothing more than dust.  I have captured very few photos of true orbs.

Most investigators believe that a spirit is made up of energy.  So, how can we say we don't believe in energy orbs, but believe that a spirit is made of it.  How do we know that this isn't how a spirit moves from place to place or what happens to them as they attempt to manifest or manipulate something.  The answer is we don't know and that is what I want to find out.  Only one time in an investigation have I had to scratch my head and think is with Figure B.  Now if someone showed me this photo and asked me if this were an orb, I'd say "No."  However, the reason why I think that this is so interesting is while we were investigating this bridge, I was able to obtain multiple EMF spikes.  There is no electricity out there, so that throws that theory out the window.  At one moment when I started to get spikes on my EMF detector, I yelled for an investigator to start snapping pictures at me and Figure B is what we got.  Interesting that we captured this when the EMF detector was spiking.  Interesting that we did not get any other orbs that look like dust orbs.  Interesting also that just prior to this event is when we got what we feel is a true orb in Figure A.  It makes me scratch my head and wonder what to think.  So what I ask of you in the paranormal community is don't cast away true orb pictures so quickly, just the ones that are dust.  Let's try to determine what these things are and where they come from.  If someone can give me a straight answer backed up by scientific research as to what an energy orb is, I'll be happy.  I have asked many people what they think they are and have never been able to get a straight answer.  Let's work together to figure this out.
